Turn Out The Lights
This Saturday marks the fifth annual Earth Hour across the globe. Earth Hour began in 2007 in Australia with more than 2.2 million people participating and every year since then it has continued to expand. Last year, over 128 countries participated. Downtown Denver is not missing out on any of the Earth friendly action. At 8:30 p.m. local time, hundreds of hotels, attractions and other city landmarks will be turning out their lights.
Two Downtown Denver hotels in particular, are going the extra mile this year. The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel and The Westin Denver Downtown will both be participating in big way during this special hour. They will be turning off exterior signage lighting; dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting and using in-room voicemail messages and in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour.
So what can you do? Expect the 16th Street Mall and other places to be darker than usual and join in the fun. I will be turning out the lights at my apartment, an hour is a small sacrifice for our planet. Earth Hour is intended to remind us that it is very easy to save energy, so don’t let your efforts end when the lights come back on.
