Take a Walk in Downtown Denver
Do you know what Denver’s most walkable neighborhood is? That’s right, it’s Downtown Denver’s own “Central Business District.” The top 5 walkable neighborhoods in Denver are: 1) Central Business District, 2) North Capitol Hill, 3) Capitol Hill, 4) Civic Center and 5) Baker. For more information on Denver’s walking rankings, visit Denver’s Walkscore.
Along with a high city ranking from Walkscore, Denver continues to make strides in active transportation with the introduction of a new advocacy group: WalkDenver. WalkDenver is dedicated to improving pedestrian experience and safety. WalkDenver’s vision for Denver is to become a pedestrian oriented city: they see Denver as a network of well-connected neighborhoods that are people-focused, culturally vibrant, active, and economically thriving. The group also wants Denver to become a Walk Friendly Community.

Walking is a healthy form of transportation, recreation and way of life. Downtowns are popular for walkers because they are often built at the pedestrian-scale, with amenities to visit, and people to see along the way. In a recent survey of people in Downtown Denver, 15% had walked to their destination (which is almost 4 times higher than the 3.7% Census figure for people who walk to work in the Metro Area as a whole). Walking allows one to experience a place. So go check out Denver’s most walkable neighborhood Downtown, get in your daily 10,000 recommended steps and support WalkDenver while you are at it.

I love to walk, especially in downtown Denver. However, lately it is disheartening to me that I can’t peacefully take a walk in solitude. I have people with clipboards bombarding me constantly even if I avoid eye contact, have head phones on or just tell them “no, thank you.” Perhaps we regulate the number of clipboard people there are at any one time or keep them in specific areas?
I sincerely love walking downtown Denver but this is getting frustratring to me and most of the people I have spoken with about this issue.
