Egyptian Mummies

Permanent Exhibit

A pair of ancient wooden boxes contains a treasure trove of information. Two women, wrapped in linen and enclosed in painted coffins, hold the secrets of 3,000 years. Who were they? How did they live? How did they die? Finally their mysteries are revealed through the magic of modern technology.

Museum scientists collaborated with doctors at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to take a look inside these two mummies using X rays and CT scans. Find out what lies beneath their linen wrappings and discover the ancient practices that have preserved these human remains through the centuries.

Tomb artifacts, animal mummies, a model of an Egyptian temple, and model replicas of one of the women's skulls round out the exhibition.

Birth of Denver’s Art Museum

Open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children 6-12. Children under 6 are free.

In 1893, local artists formed the Artists’ Club of Denver to provide a venue for their work. Anne Evans, who lived in the home now known as the Byers-Evans House Museum, joined the group and her family supported the club—the forerunner of today’s Denver Art Museum—for many years. Beginning in October, you can celebrate the grand opening of the Art Museum’s daring Hamilton Building by learning about the venerable institution’s past at the Byers-Evans House. See work by Anne Evans and other pioneer artists by taking a tour of the mansion, which graces the space on 13th Avenue between the Denver Art Museum’s new and old buildings.

Byers-Evans House Museum
Built in 1883 by Rocky Mountain News publisher Williams Byers and sold in 1889 to the family of William Gray Evans, this elegant residence is filled with original Evans family furnishings. The house museum offers exhibits, guided tours, a short film about these two pioneer Denver families and the city they built, as well as special programs for children and adults.
